Would it be possible to develop a version of GanttProject that allows dividing the same task line into several subparts of different colors and durations? For example, instead of having different lines with different, dependent tasks, having everything on the same line would be visually simpler."

This would be amazing!
We use GanttProject to run up to 30 different jobs at a time so to be able to spilt each task into sequential increments (along the same horizontal task line) without having to create a new line would condense the overall view and usability. In addition to this being able to allocate resources separately to each increment would be a huge plus for us.
It is an important feature, and we’d like to add it as soon as we have capacity for that. There is an existing feature request that you may track:
