I accidentlly saved a blank file over my completed gantt file? how do I get it back?
P.S it was very easy to save over an existing file. that should be fixed.
Unless there are autosave files for that project, chances are low.

You need to tick “overwrite” checkbox to overwrite a file. Any suggestion how can we make it more difficult? Two checkboxes?
The best solution is to use a version control system for really valuable data. You may also want to check out GanttProject Cloud which keeps the revision history.
