I’ve been using GanttProject off and on for a year or so. I installed the latest update a few days ago (3.2.3244) - now my file crashes/freezes often. Primarily when creating a New Task.
System:
Linux Mint20 Cinnamon 4.6.7
Please share the contents of the log file after crash. The log files are stored in ~/.ganttproject.d/logs directory. You can find the log file name of the currently running GanttProject with Help > View log (the file name is printed in the first line)
Here’s my most recent- it just happened again.
It seems I was having luck using CTRL T instead of a right mouse click but not sure if that’s relevant.

Is it the log produced after crash/freeze?
It’s hard for me to say at this point. I have a total of 10 log files from this morning. I’ve had to kill the app many times.

The log from the last launch will have the highest modification timestamp. You can find it using this command which lists all file
ls -t1 ~/.ganttproject.d/logs/.*.log
The most recent file will be the first in the output. The timestamp when GanttProject process which produced this log was started is encoded in the log file name.
My very first log this morning is the 6:07am- that would be pre-crash/freeze.

I don;t need the last log before update. I need the log produced after crash. That is, you start GanttProject, it crashes, and probably writes something to the log file. I need that log file, not some other one.

What do you mean? Logs from 6:07 and 6:17 were produced by different runs of GanttProject.
Yes. All three of those logs are from different runs each of which froze, did not recover, and I had to kill. They are from the files in the directory you specified, accessed after killing the processes.

It doesn’t matter how one adds a new task - via right click or top menu - every second or third time the program freezes with no other option than to kill it. That however will leave the log file empty.
Please advise what to do because in this condition the software is not usable.

Hi Dmitry- wild_willow’s experience correlates exactly with mine. The log files are empty- each time.
Okay, can you please start ganttproject from the Terminal and see if it prints anything suspicious to the console?

I reinstalled
openjdk 11.0.15 2022-04-19
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 11.0.15+10-Ubuntu-0ubuntu0.22.04.1)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 11.0.15+10-Ubuntu-0ubuntu0.22.04.1, mixed mode, sharing)
after purging the config files but the freezing continues
on a fresh install system (minimum 22.04 ubuntu 64bit) the same gantt project doesn’t freeze

after complete removal of open-jdk and installation of Bellsoft java11 same behaviour. Every time I try to make a new task ganttproject freezes
